Emerge

Emerge is an Employee Resource Group focused on the multigenerational agenda and up skilling our emerging talent. We aim to:

Build rewarding cross generational relationships

  • Through our events programme, podcast, newsletter and external partnerships

Accelerate careers

  • By providing colleagues opportunities to do something beyond their day job, upskilling themselves and our colleagues

Facilitate dialogue on important issues

  • We’ve held open discussions on career taboos, financial health, mental wellbeing and how to effectively work from home

Our Strategy

As part of the new global Employee Resource Group strategy, the key focus for our ERG is to champion the benefits of diversity at Barclays, whilst sharing the lived experiences and nuances of our diverse colleagues at Barclays. As we sharpen the focus on Diversity at Barclays, the ERG strategy will focus on four main pillars (Attract, Retain, Develop and Engage).

Attract

Internal and external engagement – Providing greater support to the Barclays D&I recruitment to identify and engage a diverse pool of candidates:

Emerge connects internally to attract new talent, specifically through:

  • Publication of a quarterly UK-wide newsletter
  • Creation of a monthly podcast featuring special guests from various business areas
  • A varied events programme throughout the year

Externally, we have strong links with organisations such as SFE Young Professionals. This ensures our members have the opportunity to connect at an industry level, as well as internally.

Retain

Building a great & diverse place to work:

  • Emerge is proud to support Millennial and Gen Z talent, and the breadth of opportunities we provide helps us retain members. We provide our members the opportunity to:
  • Mentor a senior colleague through our flagship reverse mentoring programme
  • Accelerate their careers by upskilling themselves on topics outside their day job
  • Create and host events on topics they are passionate about, with the support of experienced committee leads
  • Facilitate dialogue on issues important to our membership.

Develop

Developing colleagues with multiple dimensions of difference – Foster a diverse and inclusive environment to ensure members reach their career goals while contributing to Barclays’ D&I objectives:

  • Continue to collaborate with ERGs like Evolve, Win Juniors, and networks with shared values, such as GAIN
  • Cultivate new relationships across business areas in which we have limited presence
  • Support business areas who would like to get the multigenerational dialogue on their agenda

Engage

Connect with business leads to explore collaboration opportunities:

The strength of our network is the diversity and passion of our members. We connect around the intergenerational dialogue and support Millennial and Gen Z talent to drive their careers forward.

To do this, we run events centred on the following topics:

  • Career taboos
  • Financial health and money skills
  • Mental wellbeing
  • How to effectively work from home
  • Finance and investment skills
  • Personal Development Series
  • Culture Listening Groups
  • Reverse Mentoring
  • Career management
